Beautiful Zanzibar
Located in the Indian Ocean, roughly 25 miles from the Tanzanian coast, is a beautiful semi-autonomous archipelago known as Zanzibar. It is made up of Zanzibar Island, Pemba Island, and numerous islets.
Zanzibar Island, also known by locals as Unguja, is a well-kept secret in the travelling world. It is a bit off the beaten track, but well worth the trip. It has different historic attractions and natural wonders as well.
Want a look at the local culture and historic attractions? Take a tour around Stone Town – with its labyrinthine passages, old-style architecture and quaint shops, it is like a blast to the past. You can also find the open-air market there, one of the largest and most vibrant of its kind. Zanzibar Island is also known as the Spice Island, and as such you can take a spice tour around the various plantations where they grow saffron and cloves, among others.
The archipelago also boasts of numerous beaches with fringing coral reefs, and you can go swimming, diving and snorkelling. Some locals even offer a dolphin tour, to take a look at some of the local marine life.
